I'd like to remove my Kanguro's steering lock, ideally without destroying whatever's holding it in place as I doubt I can obtain replacements. The bike's an X (or X0 if you prefer) i.e. with a front drum brake. I don't have a key for it. I've attached a photo of it FYI. Advice welcome. Bonus points for anyone who knows where I can get a replacement lock (and if necessary whatever holds it in).

John, I agree it's broadly similar however the way the Kanguro lock is held in differs significantly. FWIW I successfully removed steering locks from other Moto Morinis and documented the process here http://www.morini-riders-club.com/forum ... php?t=4936.

Julian, maybe you have already managed to remove the lock, but if not Have a look at this ad on EBay.

As you can see the piece in your picture is purely a cover which looks like it’s cast. I reckon you should be able to break that, which will allow you to get a purchase on the rivet heads and twist them back out. Then you can possibly order a replacement ZADI key as you’ll be able to see the complete number on the lock (10 something). If not a complete lock.

That's wonderful, I've never seen anything like this cover before. I've ordered one and will then see if I can work out how to remove my current cover without damaging it (knowing I've a replacement if needed).

How did you get on with this?

Our kanguro x0 has no steering lock or cover fitted so I have no problem removing but also no reference as to what I need to buy to put back in it!

They're available online Tom, and I think Mdina have some types too. As yours is already out you should be able to measure the depth needed as the locks come in varying sizes (length) They are Neimann locks as one the Sport/Strada etc and were also used on lots of European and even Japanese bike in the 70s/80s.

The steering lock for my Sport is 39 mm long with the pin end being 13mm. The end has two flats 8 mm long and 7.5 mm across the flats.
A search of ebay under neiman lock reveals some cheap for Vespa ETA
I do not know if the Kanga is the same though
