I've had the degree disc on the bike and as far as I can work out the timing corresponds to what's shown for the L5 II cam but the lift on my cam is 7.5mm. This sounds like a hell of a lot. I haven't got a dial guage I'm using a digital vernier clamped (gently) to the frame, the end resting on the end of the valve and that's the reading I get. . . . .

Don't forget the rocker ratio.

And......

Are you checking the timing with 1mm clearance?

Hello Paul. I've got 1mm gap at the tappet (tappet thread pitch 1mm so one complete turn 1mm - right??) and am taking the reading on the degree disc when the gap closes. I'm measuring the valve lift at the spring retainer with the tappet set at zero. . . . . having just typed that it doesn't look right, am supposed to use the 1mm gap to measure valve lift as well?? I am aren't I?? That would explain it then. . . . .

The Dutch site lists the lift for the L5 cam as 5.95mm (inlet) wich would give you 7.5mm valve lift with a 1.26:1 rocker ratio.

edit:

Just found a reference to a rocker ratio of 1.375:1 which still doesn't quite add up. Thinking about it, I always thought the ration was closer to 1.3:1. That would match better with 5.65mm cam lift giving 7.5mm valve lift (1.327:1).

I need some more help, people. During one of the attempted rewinds I got fed up of the wiring for the alternator flopping about and catching on things so I cut it off. I took a photo with my phone so's I'd know where to reconnect the wires but I seem to have lost it - it's not in the phone's memory, I must have not saved it properly.

I have a red wire two yellow and a green - the green I know about but where do the others go?? The manual doesnt help and I can't find a picture of an early stator on the net.. Mine is a Ducati Electronica with the flywheel machined all over it's surface, the alternator has five poles plus the source coil. . .

Can anyone help???
