Hallo,
Readers might have seen the recent discussion about ethanol in petrol in the 500 section.
This updates the information I posted earlier.
Shell say their V-Power 99 octane fuel contains between zero and 5% ethanol.
BP say their Ultimate 97 octane sometimes contains ethanol and sometimes does not.
ExxonMobil say their Esso Supreme 97 octane does not contain ethanol, except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland.
Neither Shell nor BP has a refinery in the UK now, so they are sourcing their fuels from elsewhere -- hence the uncertainty about ethanol content.
Therefore the only one of the three main premium fuels which definitely does not contain ethanol (except in the areas mentioned) is Esso Supreme 97.
All standard grade -- 95 octane -- fuels are required to contain up to 5% ethanol, although there is an exemption scheme for when it is not available. The UK average ethanol content is 3%.
