Stepper motor probably

Post by Tinker »

So got my tank leak sorted and a fuel gauge fitted, new fork seals fitted. Worked ok for Dave Day run and now it's revving to 3k rpm tickover, it's ok when under power.. So I'm guessing stepper motor so need to get Guzzidiag out and have a play.

the stepper motor is a small solenoid type plunger valve in a cylinder, it has a 5v feed check its getting a supply , you could pull it off very easy and try some WD 40 in the intake, plug it into the feed and switch on the ignition you will feel it vibrate as the plunger moves, you can pull them apart and replace the plunger, I have a spare ready to fix mine when it goes.
have a look online , I can not remember all the ins and outs now as it was a while a go. I will dig my spare out and take a pic.
keep persevering I know you have had your share of woes, these are terrific machines once sorted are reliable, mine has not been used for 20months and she fired up, and ran ok after some intial roughness.

best of luck

Thanks how does the motor split from the body? I did look online but every comment suggested it couldn’t be split(but I haven’t looked myself)

Hello Tinker,

do you have any news about this? Just curious, if cleaning helped or not.

Hi
good work , looks like a load of carbon does it vibrate, ie move in the housing.
I am trying to find the info on pulling them apart, see photo of the plunger and part no/

Interesting. Is this from aliexpress, please? I have found such a stepper there... Should it fits into original aluminum case?

How do you get it out though? I tried gently but didn’t want to break it! The later Ducati ones look easily removable. The piston on yours might be a different shape!.
I have ran it fully in and out many times and it seems good but weather and work is preventing fitting it.

Yours is identical to mine I have just checked, I think there is a spring steel circling that needs to be prized out, I am going to have a look at mine this next winter, but for now it’s running ok. Have you tried running the bike any difference

Hi
the serated spring steel collar you see in the pic of the spare plunger is what retains it in its housing, it is angled to make it default to pull out, but not impossible ???, there is an O ring above it to seal the plunger in its housing once seated.

Forgive my ignorance, but where is the stepper motor located? I can not find any reference to it in the parts?
Thanks

Hi Mike it is between the throttle bodies inside the airbox. Also called idle air control valve

Thanks for that. Obviously not listed a separate part from Throttle body.
Mine is doing some odd things.
Sometimes it will take a while to start from cold, turning over several times and labouring before it kicks in.
Sometimes it will tick over very high (2k) from cold, other times it will tick over normally.
The most frustrating one is if It cuts out when coming to a stop, it will fire up immediately, but if I stop for a very short time, like to call into a shop, it can really struggle to start, even to the point once when I flattened the battery trying to start it. Most of the time you have to press the starter button two or three times and let it go through its start up cycle before it kicks in.
The dash will do all sorts whilst this is going one, but if the fuel light comes one during its start up, it will not start.
New battery did not make a difference.
My Corsaro starts perfectly

There was a post on another forum about wiring harness earths might be worth checking. My tickover is all over the place. I have refitted the stepper but not had a chance to try it yet.
