Good tips when changing belts:

If you feel you need a bit of lube to get the belt on then the only thing you should consider is talc, nothing else should come near the belt.

Before I take off the old one I always mark the edge of the original belt and both pulleys with tippex or similar so I can reassemble if anything moves.

On a thread on our works email someone said his local car mechanic always takes a stanley knife blade to the belt on the engine and slits it to half width, thus leaving half the pulleys accessable, he then puts the new belt on next to it before finally cutting and removing the remains of the original belt before finally snugging the new belt up. Sounds a bit OTT but in situations where there is a tensioner this may be different.

Right, folks...

I discovered that the lower alternator stator mount had cracked. :cry:

I have this on the bench now and have araldited the bits back as best I can. :(

It is evident from this ongoing crisis that there is very little clearance between the stator and rotor.

BTW I see it is sometimes referred to as a flywheel, is this just a vagiary of the translation or does this actually function as a flywheel? :?

Belt side play

Hi, I'm new to the group, but not to Italian bikes/scooters. My recently aquired 3.5 has a C belt on a B pulley. The side of the belt moved approx 8mm. When I replaced the belt with a new Goodyear belt with no letter designation, (which I got from the US Morini parts people), the side play went down to 1mm or less. Any ideas on which belt I should go with?

You should be fine with a non morini belt on a B pulley as these are closest to nominal and so are B pulleys.
