Jim Just watch when you fit the fixed chain guide on each cylinder head they fit in a recess/ pocket in the head, Bit of a bugger to get in if the head is fitted

Eddy. Ebi fitted these chains on his veloce and one snapped so we are all hoping mm have cured it with the upgrade chain kit, Or we are all riding hand grenades :D

So the front head is off now.
Don't like the look of the inlet cams.

Anyone seen anything like this before?
Do I need to add a cam shaft to my shopping list?

It is not so bad. Surface without pits. Need some polishing. For smoothing.

Hi,
one of my cams looks similar - not nice, but still ok in my opinion.

New cam chain kits are available, got two kits for 435 €.
The new chains are not wider as the old ones :shock: (the wide ones possibly are no longer available), but the supplier is Borg Warner now.
The chains are extra duty with app. 45% higher tensile strength (acc. Borg Warner).

I think, the old DID SCR0412SV are equivalent to BWA 92RH2015, so the new 98XRH2015 should be better.
The bad thing is, that the outline of the new chain is different and I would use the BWA chain only with the new sprockets, which are sligthly different.

The weak point of the chains is over here and DID has just 3,4 mm whereas BWA measures 4,3 mm.

Does the Morini Veloce cylinderhead get enough oil?

Presumably the wear on the camschaft, the fast worn valve-guides and the noisy head is caused by short oil. I think, if there is not enough oil, driving the camshaft require more power, and the result: broken camchain.....

Am I right?

The cam chain issue seems to be a problem of the 140hp engine only, due to the shape of the cam and the two springs per valve.

Still waiting for parts to arrive. The heads are away for a clean and refresh too. A little bit frustrating but as long as I get it done in time for spring I'll be happy. Don't really enjoy the Veloce in the winter too much. Especially once the salt wagons start to appear.

Starting to make just a little progress....
Heads are back. Had a very light recut and lap of the valves and seats. New stem seals. Heads and valves given a clean. Measured the clearances and have ordered half a dozen shims from the local Harley dealer. New upper and lower timing sprockets fitted. New chains and tensioners are on.

Had the clutch off to measure/inspect. Didn't realise that it was a slipper clutch, only it doesn't slip. I've often had the back end squirm about when I've been ham fisted on the down changes. I think I might need some thinner steels in there which I think will also help with finding neutral.
Having read about the coolant hose issues on these motors, I've made a little tapered aluminium ring to fit over the coolant spigot on the motor...

Used JB Marineweld to bond it. Hopefully, combined with a worm drive clip, this is a more reliable fastening.
Just need the outside temperature to increase a little. I can only manage a couple of hours or so in an unheated garage. I'm not as hardy as I used to be.

Hi. Good job! If you have dismanteled head engine, it is possible to give to everyones some helpfull info? Full phisical mesurements of intake and exhaust valves? Same mesurements of Valve Guides. May be possible to change original to other items, from Renault engine. Simply for general information.Thanks
