Great to see a GP in the desert. The gearing is referred to a couple of times as being too high. This is also a bit of a problem when in slow moving traffic anywhere hot. I commute into London on my GP from time to time, and it doesn't like 20-25 mph much. The standard sprockets are 17/42, but it looks like it is possible to get MM specific sprockets with 16/45+ on the following link:
