Hello All,
Well, things could have gone better at Bonneville than they did....
The salt was wet and sticky and the pits were a mud/salt marsh.
Things were drying a little as the week went on, but delay after delay ate up my time budget till on the morning of the last day I could be there, I and 9 others were sent out to the starting line for a run.
I knew that the odds of getting a second run in plus the required "tear-down" (in the salt mush) all in that day were low.
I was there and I was going to try. The other nine ran the course while the "Roller-Starter" fired up the Morini and I warmed the motor till it was time to go.
The starter flagged me to go and I had the Bonneville course all to my self.
As I put the bike into gear, it lurched forward and stalled.... I thought to myself, "What the Hell is this all about?".
I released the clutch lever and it didn't move at all....I grabbed it and it just flopped about....
The little soldered on "nib" on the end of the clutch cable core had stripped off and fallen into the salt under the bike. A search failed to find it and as the clock marched on.... I could only accept that 2014 wasn't going to happen...
If it had failed only one use later,,, I could have easily shifted through the gears for a pass down the course....
It it had only failed one use earlier, I would have had time to repair it at home before leaving.....
An offering the the Gods of Speed
Robert

(Sigh)
Almost worse than blowing up, crashing, or both, at least from a psychological point of view. My very first roadrace ever was lost to a throttle cable. Better than running out of gas, I suppose.
Congratulations for putting all the effort in, and good luck next time!
