Crank oil feed oil seal and supporting ring.

Post by 72degrees »

So I've cleaned the congealed oil out of the 'clutch cover' blown out the oilways with an air line and reassembled the oil pressure relief valve.

Came to fit the new main crank oil feed oil seal (15X24X7 SM) and had a crisis of confidence. It does fit with the 'open' side towards the crank yes? Can't remember from when I removed the old one but it looks like that from the parts list illustration. Never had to fit an oil seal the 'wrong way' before so hoping one of my natty bearing and seal drivers will work without damaging it. Best to warm the cover first I guess. Does the supporting ring then just sit on the seal under the plate?

You need to think about which side has the oil pressure and what that would do to the seal lip, then you should be able to work it out.

I have, at great length and my befuddled old brain can't be sure, that's why I'm asking!

For clarification, this is what I'm talking about. I can get my head round the normal seals for the 'dry side' main and gearbox bearings but this one is foxing me.

Just as well I stopped and checked first eh? It didn't seem right as shown in the parts list illustration, which seems to show it the 'wrong way' round to me. EVguru's Youtube "Morini Clutch assembly pt1" video shows it going in the way I originally thought it really ought to, and so will be easier to drive in as well - thanks Paul!
