Greetings,
I'm having problems finding a replacement battery for my 1979 500 Strada. The old battery is a Varta serial no. 530 030 030 but when I bought a replacement it was 2-3mm wider than the old one so it wouldn't go through the frame. It looks like Varta have changed the dimensions without telling anyone as the supplier didn't appear to know. I'm sure there are alternatives out there but before I start the search does anyone know of an alternative. I don't use the electric starter (it broke several years ago so I solved the problem by undoing three bolts and throwing it away) so I guess I could get away with using a smaller battery.
Thanks

Re: 500 Strada battery
My 500 came with a conventional Exide 12v 30ah battery.
Whilst this did fit the battery tray, the fit was snug and the battery required maintenance from time to time.
After some advice on this forum I went for the Motobatt MB18U 12v 22.5 ah battery. Yes it is a little more money but there is less maintenance. So far so good, the battery is smaller but to me that is not a bad thing. I have a good battery strap and I have placed a wooden block in the battery tray to stop any movement.
Regards
Paul

Re: 500 Strada battery
I followed some forum advice and went for a Motobatt MB51814. Tayna Batteries. However I did want something good for the electric foot. Loads of room width but tight on height
