Post by Arthur Farrow »

I have been contacted in my capacity as DVLA Morini Riders Club registrar and dating officer re one of these

Our databanks are rather lacking on this model...anybody out there got One I can converse with ????

I am keen to see frame numbers , engine identifier (a letter) and some general pictures
God save the King (& my pistons)

Hi Arthur.

I don't know much, although I do have two factoids which I know to be correct....

1. The engine number (if it has one) will be on the front of the crankcases. Identifier stampings are:-
E = 125cc.
P = 150cc.
U = 160/165cc.

2. 125cc (56mm x 50mm, 123.08cc) barrels have 8 fins.
160/165 (60mm x 58mm, 163.9cc) barrels have 10 fins.

Apart from that, everything seems to be slightly shrouded in mystery. It seems to me that there are 'earlier' and 'later' Regolaritas.

The earlier ones have a squarish fuel tank similar to the road bikes, a round fin cylinder head, elaborate rear mudguard, and the exhaust exits on the left hand side.

The later ones have a more rounded fuel tank similar to the 'Country', a square fin cylinder head, simpler rear mudguard, and the exhaust exits on the right hand side. These ones also have a steering damper.

Of course this may well be just an over-simplification. In true Morini style there are probably lots of combinations/variations.

Another thing I do know is that back in about 2017 or 2018, Owens Moto Classics who are near Stafford, sold a collection of small off road Morinis. There were about seven bikes, some of which I had never heard of. Maybe it would be worth asking them if it would be possible to get in touch with the person(s) who put the collection together, as they must have had very detailed knowledge of the bikes.
