Regulator/rectifier replacement
Hello,
I have been searching the forum regarding the best option to replace the reg/rec on my 500 and am still not sure what's the best option as most threads are not closed. I currently have a Ducati 344212 on mine (already installed when I bought the bike), and it's not performing well.
My stator is the one with the two yellows, one green and one white.
From what I have read, it appears that the correct regulator would be the Ducati 343142 (12V - 18A). Is that the case ?
I found a cheap Ducati reg/rec with the number 343152 (12V - 18A), do you think that would work instead of this 343142 ? They both have the G-G-R+B-C connectors. I tried to find a detailed info on these in order to understand what would be the differences but can't find any.
Cheers,

Re: Regulator/rectifier replacement
With the stator you mention, the two yellows are the AC output and as there is no other wiring (eg the red centre tap version) I would suggest using a generic Reg/Rec of they type used on many Japanese and British bikes. They do come in a variety of Wattages though so make sure you get one that handles say, 180W as a minimum. 2 phase as well.

Re: Regulator/rectifier replacement
Evening Steve and thank you for taking the time to reply.
Just want to make sure, since you are talking about two phase and I am not the most competent electrician around, the stator for the 500 is a single phase one, right ? Hence the two yellow wires ? Also, how would you tell the wattage on a regulator ?
From what I found on Mdinitalia, looks like the Ducati Electronica 343152 is suitable for Morini 350/500/501: https://www.mdinaitalia.co.uk/regulator ... -only.html.
From another thread, in the forum, the correct Ducati Electronica would be the 344212: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1221&p=5688&hilit=d ... ator#p5688
And from another thread, it could be the 343142 altough it doesn't seem to have worked

Re: Regulator/rectifier replacement
Sorry Michel, it was late for me, but yes it is a single phase type and the one from Mdina is good to use too. Apologies for my confusion!
As for telling what Wattage a rec/reg can handle, most sellers advertise the safe limits, either in Amps or Watts. None of the original Morini alternators give out more than about 140Watts so I always look for something safely higher than that. Sometimes I even start to use the old formulas of
Watts over Amps x Volts and/or Volts over Amps x Ohms then I need to lie down afterwards.

Re: Regulator/rectifier replacement
The so called bodyless alternators, last Model before Kokussan give abput 200 W !
They used to be combined with flywheels with marks for 350 and 500, ANT 1 and ANT 2
When I remember it well their Regulator was a 24 or 28 aH one.

With that alterator you even won't have Problems with heatet handlebars. The flywheel are the best ones (have them in my two bikes, 200 and 140W))

That's a surprise Norbert-I've never had one of those! Thanks for the information and I hope I haven't spoiled the job for Michel!

Don't worry Steve, no harm done so far
Norbert, could you give moe info on this "bodyless" alternator ? Do you know on which particular model it was installed ? And how would one recognise it ?
