Forum Downtime

Post by BarryCambs »

You might have noticed the forum has been offline for a day and frustratingly, this was down to bots trawling for AI content again. The tweaks I did last time have helped, but the software is now a few years out of date and the latest version has beefed up protection to help with the increasing threats. This time I'm going to bite the bullet and update the software instead of dragging my feet - this is a manual process from within the file system, rather than just pressing an Update button, so not something to do in a rush!

In the short term, I'll disable the registration option while the dust settles. Apologies for the downtime but hopefully this will futureproof things and stop this happening again.

The forum is back online.
  • Barry upgraded to the current version of phpBB, together with updating and upgrading various related software; He encountered some teething problems.
  • Another club member and I managed to help debug the problems and bring it back online.
I'm working with Barry to explore how we might protect the forum from nefarious bots and characters while still keeping it available help support and encourage Moto Morini owners and fans. We may need to tweak the site's behaviour to do so. Thank you for your patience and support.

Eh up, Barry.

I have absolutely no idea what you have done and what you have been through, but it is great to see the Forum working again.

You are a Champion! :D

"You've all done very well!" Tm. Mr. Grace

It was a rum one and no mistake. It needed your fresh pair of eyes to track down that .htaccess glitch. Another black mark against Fasthosts in my opinion.

The side effect is that there is now a 'clone' (not saying exactly where) that may prove useful for destructive testing of new spambot measures ;)
