Vibrazzione!

Post by trinder »

Yesterday being a do bits and pieces job at home day ( I promised the wife) I decided when my chores were done I'd clean Bambini within an inch of her life ready for a foray down to Ross on Wye via Clowes Top, Bromyard, Malvern, Ledbury and Much Marcle, lots of lovely A & B roads with plenty of twisties  However, having decided to jump on bambini for a quick blatt down to my local Cafe for a quick cuppa and a wad when I'd finished imagine my dismay when I got back to find my N/S rear indicator had dissapeared as the lug holding it to the frame had broken (Va F*****O!)

Quick look at the time, 17.25, jump into the car and go to my local motorcycle shop. Find suitable Oxford LED indicators (Not weedy little ones) and an Oxford rear numberplate mounting for rear indicators parting of about fifty quid later and back home to fit. took me from 19.00 hours to 23.15 to get wired and sorted (they look very good and in keeping with the style of the bike, but not original  )

However, had a blinding ride out to see my brother and sister in law put abig :D on my face with how Bambini sings to me and how she handles. Those Batlax tyres were a good choice :) .

Only down side is that I now have to find an original indicator, mounting and get a new lug welded on. I am told that the original indicators are like rocking horse poo as they are chrome plated plastic. My plan is to locate a replacement and keep the originals for if ever I sell her (unlikely) and run her with the LED's as they are lighter, flexible and less likely to be prone to the dreaded vibration breaking mounting lugs off.

What does any one else think? How difficult/costly is it likely to be to sources an original indicator assembly to put by?

If the indicators are CEV you can get them new at Motovecchia. NLM's always worth a call too.

Cheers, Mark.

My rear indicator lug was broken off when I got the bike, so it had no indicators.I got the lug rewelded on. I had the original indicators but decided they were quite weighty items. I tried the mini indicators but was told they were not that visible on a motorway run. Also they draw 21w apiece.
I now use "flexi-stem" indicators from Vehicle Wiring Products.(much lower power requirement bright and er...flexible) Only trouble was the threaded part is a larger diameter, they fitted to the rear OK but I had to enlarge the front mountings with a drill, but this is into a non standard Cibie round unit as I should have an oblong headlamp on my K.

Excellent! Go a bit further north next time and I'll do a run along Corvedale with you from Bridgnorth to Craven Arms.

As to the indicators, I have some Stanley 'chrome' ones going spare that are similar to the original units but bigger and chunkier.

Spoke to Alex at NLM, he has a CEV indicator and bracket and he will weld on a new lug for the mounting. Aiming to ride across on the 17th March if anyone fancies a ride out from my neck of the woods?
